The cat has fleas
I'm almost positive that Charlie has fleas. I'm taking him to the vet today. I feel awful that I didn't realize it sooner. He hasn't been scratching more than usual I don't think but he is shedding little black worming looking things which are apparently flea dirt. He was due for his annual check up any way but he is not going to be happy! We'll see how it goes.

Better check the dogs carefully too, I would bet they brought them in from the outside since Charlie is an inside cat. We had luck with the flea repellent from the grocery store that comes in little tubes. You just put a few drops down the spine and rub it in. I'm pretty sure it is good for dogs and cats, plus it smells like baby powder...so on 3 animals your house will smell like a baby powder factory. Also offer to put some on Sean, he'll like that!
Poor Charlie! I would agree that the dogs probably brought them in, if he does indeed have fleas. I try to check our kitty Fey. She's an indoor cat, but she has free reign of our deck. There are so many bugs in WA, I tend to be a little paranoid about her bringing things into the house. You'll probably also want to super wash any bedding he's come in contact with, and possible bully Sean into shampooing the carpets ;).
Try Hartz Advanced Care once a month flea and tick drops. That's what we used, and it really seemed to work well on the mangy beast.
Avoid the flea shots they offer at the dr office. Samson has not been quite the same since he got one. And vaccumn and wash everything like crazy to get all the eggs. The blackish spots are dried digested blood. ugh. Good luck sis

PLEASE DO NOT USE HARTZ FLEA PRODUCTS. My cat just died yesterday because of it! I found out how horrible this stuff was too late.
